Who we are

Welcome! Hooverarium was founded by Andrea and Stephen Hoover, a husband-and-wife team with a shared passion for reptiles, rescue, and education. What began as a deep love for animals grew into a mission: to give reptiles a second chance and help others learn how to respect, understand, and properly care for them.

At Hooverarium, we specialize in rescuing reptiles that people can no longer care for—whether due to unexpected life changes, lack of resources, or misinformation about their needs. Every animal in our care is treated with patience, respect, and a commitment to lifelong well being.

Education is at the heart of everything we do. Through hands-on classes, outreach programs, and mobile presentations, Andrea and Stephen work to create positive, memorable experiences for kids and families. By meeting reptiles up close in a safe, supportive environment, child learn not only proper care and handling, but also empathy, responsibility, and conservation awareness.

Based in the Sierra Foothills, Hooverarium proudly serves Jackson, Amador County, and surrounding areas—hosting classes at our rescue and bringing reptile education directly to schools, homeschool groups, libraries, and community programs.

Our goal is simple:
Rescue animals in need, educate the next generation, and build a future where reptiles are understood, respected, and protected.

Schedule a visit with us or book a presentation and experience the joys of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates!
